Tech Talks: HPC Fire Inspired Pilot Components and Replacement Parts

The HPC Fire Inspired Team is dedicated to creating safe and quality outdoor appliances that stand the test of time. Our team invests in our customers by selecting quality materials as well as by curating each design while streamlining the customer experience. Per Chuck Parsons, “We hold ourselves to a high standard and have the most certified CSA appliances in the industry.

This Tech Talk reviews HPC’s Pilot components and replacement parts that are made available to our customers to keep your fire appliance running smoothly. Whether you want to update your design or require a new part over time; HPC offers our customers the ease of ordering replacement parts.

When You Need A New Pilot:

If you are experiencing an issue with your fire appliance HPC is ready and willing to provide step by step guidance to ensure your fire design is up and running. Consultation is key. Use our troubleshooting technology or be sure to reach out to HPC and speak with one of certified NFI Technicians. If you prefer someone onsite, HPC can provide referrals. After a bad pilot has been determined as the culprit the solution is fairly quick and easy. With a simple replacement pilot you will have your fire appliance running allowing you to once again create enjoyable memories.

Pilot Replacement Selection:

HPC has 5 different types of replacement pilots available. When confirming the proper replacement parts, one must confirm the gas type then verify the BTU rating. Having your model number readily available will allow our team to easily assist you if you have any questions or concerns regarding proper replacement parts. In addition, HPC’s One App will allow you to store all pertinent information for your fire appliance in one place. Below are the pilot replacement part prefixes explained to increase dealer and consumer knowledge.

  • HSIP: HSIP stands for Hot Surface Ignition Pilot. For those transitioning from HWI or Hot Wire Ignition Pilot, to a new HISP: HPC includes a new blow out box with lid as well as a transition plate to house our new igniter design. These components are all included in the HSIP replacement pilot parts to streamline the installation process for our customers.
  • 36SS: The 36 represents the length of all the leads. The leads include the thermocouple, pilot tube and the ignition wires which are all 36 inches long. The SS refers to the top of the pilot being composed of stainless steel.

Components:

HPC’s Pilot is made up of three essential components: the igniter, thermocouple and the pilot tube. At times, due to wear and tear some components may require replacement. If a fire appliance is displaying a 3 flash error code it is indicative of a bad pilot component. Most often it is indicative of a bad thermocouple, but the components require inspection to tease out the issue. Once the issue has been identified it is as simple as ordering and installing the new replacement part.

  • Igniter: HPC offers two igniters made for 12 volt and 24 volt systems. Refer to your model number to verify your proper voltage. The 312-SNI-12V is for the 12 volt 312-SNI-24V for 24 volt. 312 relates to the product code, the SNI stands for Silicon Nitrite Igniter the 12V and 24V to the voltage being used to power the igniter. Replacing the igniter is a simple and easy process. Ordering the new part and installation can be guided by our tech team or by using HPC’s trouble shooting APP.
  • Thermocouple: HPC creates systems to alert our consumers if there is an issue requiring attention or maintenance. HPC’s Replacement component part number for a thermocouple is 311-T/C. HPC offers a 36 inch and 72 inch lead to the thermocouple allowing additional length for installation. Things you may see if the thermocouple is bad are: the igniter will glow but the spark from the thermocouple will not be able to ignite. Another instance is if the thermocouple tubing becomes kinked it could cause damage to the copper wire causing a faulty thermocouple as it cuts its continuity. A damaged thermocouple is a low cost replacement item that can be readily ordered and quickly replaced.
  • Pilot Tube: The pilot tube directs the gas source to the unit. It is rare to require replacement but in the event that the tube is damaged HPC would recommend to replace the whole pilot system. To do so you would place an order for an HSIP replacement part. This includes everything customers need to install the new part and get your appliances fired up once again.
