Electronic Ignition Troubleshooting

The HPC electronic ignition system will display an error code for most problems- the code can be read by an LED flash count or in the Error Log as follows:

HI / LO Models:
Smart Phone- see Error Log.
RemoteControl- count LED flashes.

ON / OFF Models:
Internal Control Module- count LED flashes.

IMPORTANT: To analyze Error Codes, please power down fire pit then restart.

Any items denoted (SERV PRO) should be performed by a service professional certified for gas appliances.

**The number of error flashes corresponds to the numbers indicated below.

#1 - Ignition Failure
Symptoms:

  • No gas to fire pit
    • Solution: Confirm gas is connected and shutoff valve is FULLY ON
  • Flame Sensor tip not properly in flame
    • (SERV PRO) Shutoff valve is fully ON, proper gas pressure and gas line size to fire pit
  • Pilot gas connection leaking at pilot assembly
    • (SERV PRO) Re-tighten connection
  • Pilot Orfice Clogged
    • (SERV PRO) Remove and clean orifice

  • Sensor tip dirty (soot)
    • Solution: Clean with brush
  • Connection loose at valve box
    • (SERV PRO) Re-tighten connection
  • Sensor copper tubing kinked or broken
    • (SERV PRO) Replace flame sensor

  • Igniter damaged, wire damaged, or plug disconnected at valve box
    • (SERV PRO) Re-connect plug or replace ignitre assembly

  • Loose or damaged electrical circuit for module or valve inside valve box
    • (SERV PRO) Inspect electrical circuit, repair as needed
#2 - Over Temperature
Symptoms:

  • Enclosure Venting Insufficient or Clogged
    • Solution: Confirm proper venting - refer to installation instructions; Clean vents as needed
  • Unwanted Fire in Enclosure Cavity Increasing Heat - Gas Leak or Air Mixer Back-Pressure (LP)
    • (SERV PRO) Confirm no gas leaks or air mixer back pressure. Repair as needed
  • Very Large Size Lava Rock on Burner
    • Solution: Apply base coat of HPC standard lava rock (#657), reapply large lava as top coat/li>
  • Too Much Glass or Lava Rock on Burner
    • Solution: Reapply only enough to cover burner
#3 - Thermocouple Error
Symptoms:

  • Connection loose at valve box
    • (SERV PRO) Re-tighten connection
  • Sensor copper tubing kinked or broken
    • (SERV PRO) Replace flame sensor
#4 - Hardware Fault
Symptoms:

  • Loose or damaged electrical circuit for valve inside valve box **may be also be error code 1
    • (SERV PRO) Inspect electrical circuit, repair as needed
#5 - Flame at Start Up
Symptoms:

  • Control Module or Gas Valve malfunction
    • (SERV PRO) Diagnose and repair
#6 - Igniter Open
Symptoms:

  • Igniter damaged... Error Code 1
    • (SERV PRO) Replace igniter assembly or reconnect plug to valve box
#7 - Broken Communication Cable (HI / LO Models Only)
Symptoms:

  • Communication cable disconnected or damaged inside valve box
    • (SERV PRO) Inspect electrical connections - diagnose and repair as needed
#8 - Smart Device/Remote Control Not Paired (HI / LO Models Only)
Symptoms:

  • Communication cable disconnected or damaged inside valve box
    • (SERV PRO) Inspect electrical connections - diagnose and repair as needed
#9 - Out Of Range (HI / LO Models Only)
Symptoms:

  • Fire pit is out of range
    • Solution: Move closer to the fire pit making sure you have direct line of sight to the antenna
#10 - Internal Control Fault Or Over Temperature
Symptoms:

  • Breaker or wall switch are off
    • Solution: Turn them on
  • Smart Device or Remote Control batteries weak
    • Solution: Replace Remote Control batteries or charge Smart Device

  • Batteries may be dead
    • Solution: Change the remote batteries
  • Remote not synced
    • Solution: Re-sync the remote by powering down the unit (un-plug then plug back in). Then hold down POWER and LOW at the SAME TIME until there is a continuous flash on the remote LED. If properly synced there will be 2 extra flashes confirming connection. (High Low)

  • Fuse may be blown
    • Solution: Check external fuse on unit
  • Incorrect voltage to unit
    • (SERV PRO) Check voltage to the unit
  • Module sensing wrong voltage from transformer
    • (SERV PRO) Replace module and transformer

  • Remote not paired to unit
    • Solution: Re-sync the remote by powering down the unit (un-plug then plug back in). Then hold down POWER and LOW at the SAME TIME until there is a continuous flash on the remote LED. If properly synced there will be 2 extra flashes confirming connection. (High Low)
  • App not paired to unit
    • Solution: Re-sync the app by closing the app and re-opening then pair back to the unit. (HIGH LOW)
  • Out of range
    • Solution: Move closer to the unit to allow communication and ensure a line of sight
  • Transceiver not communicating with module
    • (SERV PRO) Check communication cable and ensure indicator light on transceiver is on
