This Tech Talk will highlight a critical component included on every HPC appliance. Known as the unsung hero, HPC’s blow out box yields many benefits to our consumers. This article will educate consumers about the benefits of the signature design as well as provide critical reminders for the use.
Benefits Of HPC’s Blowout Box:
Outdoor elements can be harsh. HPC’s blow out box design creates a layer of protection from the various challenges brought on by the great outdoors.
- Assists with water mitigation- The design allows drainage from the pan. When outdoor weather and elements are in play the design of the blow out box creates a natural downward flow for water to travel out of the pan protecting critical components.
- Protects the Pilot flame and Orifice- The the blow out box lid creates a barrier so that the pilot flame will not be disrupted by heavy winds or rain. The box protects the pilot orifice by keeping it free from debris.
- Protects the Igniter- While HPC utilizes the highest grade of materials, the igniter is delicate and could easily be damaged if it were not for the well thought out design of the blow out box.
- Creates Enhanced Ignition- The flame guard protects the pilot flame allowing the ignition sequence to happen without interruption.
HPC’s Signature Design:
HPC has recently transitioned from a rectangular-designed blow-out box to a new Hexagon design. We listened to our customer’s concerns around the size of the blow out box. The original design was approximately 3 ½ by 2 inches. The New sleek Hexagon design is approximately ½ the size of the rectangular design. The new design allowed HPC to redesign the pilot as well as reposition components. By moving the igniter location closer to the pilot hood creates a better ignition.
Importance of Media Placement:
When adding approved media be sure to refer to HPC’s installation instructions. Media should be added ensuring that there is full coverage of the burner with the ports being exposed. When using HPC’s fire glass, we recommend applying ¼ to ½ inch layer on top of the burner and the ports. Be sure to to not over apply the media, as it can cause the thermocouple to overheat, causing nuance dropouts. The media can be applied up to the bottom of the blowout box lid, but can not be buried in the media for proper venting of the pilot flame. Again, if the blowout box is covered it can cause overheating issues, or could negatively impact the hot cold junction that is needed to allow the thermocouple to function properly. If you have over applied your media it can easily be rectified by clearing away media from the blow out box and removing extra media.
Pilot Replacements:
When it comes time to update or replace your pilot, HPC will send the new Hexagon design. Every pilot system will be paired with the transition plate that covers the larger rectangular opening of the previous design. The new pilot kit creates an easy and seamless transition for customers .
