Getting the Most Out of Your HPC Fire Inspired ™ Electronic Ignition High-Low Fire Pit

HPC Fire Inspired™ HPC Electronic Ignition (EI) High-Low Fire Pits are one of the most popular lines in our company’s history, mostly because people love the convenience of easy remote-control ignition. Recently, the HPC Electronic Ignition High-Low series was updated to include enhanced safety features as well as a new and improved mobile Bluetooth® app… but more on that later. Every once in a while we feel it’s important to share with fire pit users – and dealers – helpful tips to get the best enjoyment out of a product line.

Schedule Annual Service Checks with a Certified Professional

HPC Fire Inspired suggests that its fire pits be serviced annually by a professional who is certified in the U.S. by the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) as an NFI Gas Specialist. To find a certified specialist near you, visit https://www.nficertified.org/public/find-an-nfi-pro/. Always be sure that the gas is shut off and the fire pit is cool before servicing. Any guard or protective device removed for servicing must be replaced prior to operating the fire pit.

Respect Your Fire Pit’s Operation

  • Before use, be sure to test all gas connections for leaks. Do not use the fire pit if there is any evidence of leaking gas. If leaking gas is suspected, turn off the main gas supply and repair it immediately.
  • Do not use the enclosure as a seating area. Windy and gusty conditions will affect the flame in an unpredictable manner. If conditions exist that are not safe for patrons, turn off the fire pit.
  • The hose should be inspected before each use of the fire pit and replaced prior to use if there is evidence of excessive abrasion or wear or if the hose is damaged. The replacement hose assembly should be one that is specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use the fire pit if any part has been underwater. Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the fire pit and to replace any part of the control system and any gas control that has been underwater.
  • Never use any material that is non-porous and holds moisture such as gravel, pebbles, river rock, etc. This material, when heated, will cause the trapped moisture to boil and fracture unexpectedly. This material is not porous enough to allow heated steam to readily escape which can  cause personal injury or damage.
  • Solid fuels should not be burned in the fire pit.
  • Leaves, sticks, wood, paper, clothing, food material, and other debris should be kept away from the fire pit. Clothing or other flammable materials should not be hung from the appliance or placed on or near the appliance. Keep the appliance area free from gasoline and other flammable vapors and liquids.
  • The HPC Electronic Ignition  High-Low fire pit line is not for cooking.
  • Make sure that there is no vegetation or other objects over the top or sides of the fire pit that could interfere with safe operation.
  • If lava rock is wet, allow the fire pit to burn for 45 minutes prior to coming within 15 feet of the fire pit.
  • When the fire pit is not in operation, turn off the gas valve.

Easily Interpret Unexpected Errors

Like most gas appliances, issues can arise that may require you to contact your retailer or certified technician for service or repair. Luckily, the remote-control unit supplied with all HPC Electronic Ignition High-Low fire pits will offer some insight by blinking a certain number of times. The number of blinks on the remote corresponds to specific error numbers and their descriptions. This same coded data is also displayed in the Troubleshooting tab of the HPC Fire Inspired Fire App V2 that will be featured in the second part of this blog series. Once you identify the error code, you can refer to the Remote Control Ignition (EI) Troubleshooting Chart online for possible causes and solutions. Oftentimes an issue can be resolved by simply changing batteries on the remote, re-pairing and resetting the mobile Bluetooth app, removing debris in the gas line or fire ring, or cleaning part of the fire pit.
