HPC Electronic Ignition Power Offerings
HPC values knowledge and invests in the exploration of best practices as well as engineering to ensure quality and performance for each fire design. HPC remains dedicated to ensure each fire design upholds ANSI standards and maintains CSA certification.
HPC continues to lead the industry curating innovative designs, by offering over 400 CSA certified products and fire appliances. Buying certified appliances from HPC gives our consumers confidence that their fire design meets industry safety standards. Installing certified appliances will assure approval from building officials and inspectors guaranteeing your project won’t be delayed due to any building requirements.
This Tech Talk will review New ANSI and CSA standards as well as outline HPC’s Signature Electronic Ignition Power Offerings distinguishing when power supplies are required and verifying best suited applications.
New Standard:
As always, HPC upholds the highest standards for safety. Through our close work with ANSI and CSA, HPC has been preparing for the shift in safety standards pertaining to installing appliances around water. The new standard states that a fire appliance around water must be powered by no more than 18 volt A/C alternating current or 30 volt D/C direct current. HPC advises consumers to familiarize themselves with local codes and standards, as some municipalities adopt the standards at different rates so it is imperative to confirm local codes during planning stages.
HPC offers various voltage options for select fire appliances. The Electronic Ignition Series can be purchased in the 120 volt, the 24 volt or 12 volt. No matter the desired application or voltage appliance you purchase, HPC has your back offering everything you need.
Please note that all voltages can be located in the model number of the insert found in the last suffix of the model number. Please see the examples:
- PENTA36EI-NG/120VAC (120 volt supply)
- TOR-PENTA25EI-HI/LO-LP/24VAC (24 volt supply)
- 72SSEI-TRGH-NG/12VAC (12 volt supply)
120 Volt Appliance:
HPC’s 120 Volt is our most popular offering. The 120 volt can simply plug directly into an outdoor (GFCI) Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, connecting the circuit to the main breaker panel. This makes for an easy installation process as it doesn’t require any added accessories such as separate power supplies. The 120 volt can be used in most open outdoor spaces adhering to clearance guidelines. However, as a safety precaution, it should not be installed close to water or water features.
24 Volt Appliance:
The 24 volt power supply is one of HPC’s low voltage options. This unit requires a few added components such as a transformer and power supply to convert the power. According to prior ANSI standards the 24 volt power units were considered safe to operate around water, such as pools, ponds or water features. However, the ANSI standard is evolving and is moving towards lowering the safe level of voltage around water to 12 volts. As always, HPC encourages consumers to confirm local code and standards while in the design stages. Doing so will avoid issues. HPC is prepared for the transition and has appropriate power supplies available to consumers seeking fire appliances in or around water.
Power supplies: HPC offers 24 power supplies with up to 5 24 volt circuits output
- 311-PS1 (1 low voltage circuit from power supply) Supports a 1 appliance
- 311-PS3 (3 low voltage circuits from single power supply) Supports up to 3 appliances
- 311-PS5 (5 low voltage circuits from single power supply) Supports up to 5 appliances.
12 Volt Appliance:
The 12 Volt appliance is a low voltage offering that meets the new ANSI standard for outdoor fire appliances that will be installed in or around water supplies. Like the 24 volt, the 12 volt power supply requires a few more components at the point of installation. HPC carries transformers and a power supplies to convert the voltage ensuring the proper level of power to yield optimal functioning from your appliance. Below are the power supply offerings:
Power supplies: HPC offers 12 volt power supplies with up to 5 12 volt circuits output.
- 313-PS1 (1 12 volt circuit from power supply): Supports 1 appliance
- 313-PS3 (3 12 volt circuits from single power supply): Supports up to 3 appliances
- 313-PS5 (5 12 volt circuits from single power supply): Supports up to 5 appliances
HPC’s Designated Power Supplies:
HPC wants to emphasize the importance of selecting proper power supplies when utilizing lower voltage units. When utilizing low voltage units it is imperative to pair the unit with a minimum of 100 WATT VA power supply. HPC has 100 WATT power supplies available that can easily be paired with our units. Utilizing HPC’s power supplies guarantees our consumers that a proper level of power is being run to the unit. If the power supply is not correct or is less than the advised 100 WATT, the consumer is taking a risk that the control module will become damaged due to lack of ample power.
