Deciphering HPC’s Technology: 7, 8, 9 Flash Codes

HPC strives to elevate the consumer experience. At each point of service, we put our customers first. HPC’s Tech talks aim to educate and empower our clientele. Providing knowledge to consumers around how to best maintain their fire appliances will extend the life of their designs ensuring that they will stand the test of time. For this Tech Talk, the HPC Fire Inspired team will review the meaning of the 7, 8 and 9 Flash Codes, as well as how to achieve proper resolution.

The 7, 8 and 9 Flash Codes (Communication codes)

Communication is key to success. With HPC’s Bluetooth HI/LO EI Units communication between technology plays a critical role in the units’ operation. The 7, 8, and 9 Flash codes are known as the communication codes. These codes are only relevant for the Bluetooth HI/LO electronic ignition units. These HI/LO units are operated by a Bluetooth signal sent from the Bluetooth remote control or the HPC smart phone app. The HPC Fire Inspired HI/LO units will not operate with other controls such as timers and home automation. The only means of operation is via a Bluetooth signal. When a 7, 8 or 9 flash code is present on the control module then this is an indication that there is a communication error.  Each code indicates differing issues which require a specific set of action steps.

The 7-Flash Code

The 7-flash code will indicate “broken communication”. This may be as simple as ensuring the Bluetooth antenna is installed on the outside of the enclosure per HPC’s instructions. Next, inspect the antenna and coaxial cable to ensure that there isn’t any damage. In addition, the coaxial cable should be checked confirming that it is connected tightly to the exterior of the control box. Another reason for a 7 flash code is due to old or dead remote-control batteries. This can be easily fixed by simply replacing the batteries. Lastly, if all other components are confirmed as operational, a 7 flash code can indicate a potential issue with the Bluetooth transceiver. To verify this, one must look at the light indicator located on the transceiver inside of the control box. The light should be on as long as power is applied to the unit. If the light is off while powered this verifies that there is an issue with the transceiver itself. One can rectify this issue by ordering a replacement transceiver to be installed on the unit.  Contact HPC Fire Inspired’s Tech Team, our experts will help tease out the issue at hand, while guiding consumers to a proper solution.

The 8-Flash Code

The 8 Flash code is the most common communication issue. When an 8 Flash code is present it is indicative of a “pairing issue”, meaning that the remote has not been paired properly to the unit. Like any other Bluetooth operated equipment, the two devices must be synced together opening up communication. To ensure proper connection, start by confirming that the antenna is located on the outside of the enclosure and that the coaxial cable is attached to the control box properly. Once the antenna has been verified, then the  remote must be synced to the unit. HPC provides step by step instructions within the provided installation instructions. However, if you have further questions HPC’s Tech team can easily walk you through the steps to connect your phone or remote to the fire appliance.

The 9-Flash Code

If the 9 Flash code is present, then this is indicative that the unit is out of range for the Bluetooth signal to communicate properly. There is a very simple solution to this error code.  When operating the unit with HPC’s Bluetooth remote, HPC’s Bluetooth technology is operational when you are within 20 feet of the antenna. Adjusting your position to ensure there is a clear sight line between the remote and the antenna will yield optimal conditions for operation. If the issue persists, download the HPC Fire One APP to operate the fire appliance. The app possesses a stronger Bluetooth signal extending the range of operation for users.

Summary Of Communication Error Codes

The 7, 8 and 9 error codes only pertain to the Bluetooth HI/LO electronic ignition units. These codes only indicate a communication issue with the Bluetooth technology, not anything with the components or the unit itself.  The communication issues are quick to be discovered and can be easily rectified by following a few simple steps.
