Tech Talk – HPC’s Signature Pilot Components: Rooted In Research Resulting In Perfectly Engineered Designs

Every HPC design is rooted in research resulting in perfectly engineered appliances that are reliable, safe and elegant. HPC intentionally chooses quality materials to fabricate each piece resulting in long-lasting designs that can withstand harsh elements. Each component plays a crucial role. Today HPC wants to highlight the components which make up HPC’s signature pilot leaving our consumers more informed and empowered.

Remote Control Electronic ignition EI Series:

HPC’s Remote Control Electronic Ignition is supported by a pilot system that lights every time. The system is made up of several critical components that work together seamlessly ensuring safety and reliability. HPC utilizes high-grade materials such as commercial grade stainless steel, and silicon nitrite to create a product that is long-lasting and robust in the face of all elements.

  • Thermocouple Sensor- This component enables our flame sensing technology. When the Thermocouple is soaked or engulfed in the pilot heat, the heat creates a millivolt current that maintains the flame. In the event that the flame is blown out by elements, the current will be disrupted and will shut down the unit.
  • Hot Surface Igniter- When a user flips a wall switch or handheld remote to turn on the unit, the igniter will glow, then gas will flow and the temperature will light the gas. In turn, this produces the flame. The igniter is fabricated from Silicon Nitrite. This material is robust and is made to withstand the elements and is less likely to erode or break down. In addition, the igniter is powered by 24 volts from the control module or box. Using 24 volts creates a more reliable source of power. In addition, the wires used to connect the igniter to the box are high-temperature wires and can withstand heat up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Pilot Hood- The Pilot Hood is fabricated from commercial-grade Steele and is formed in the shape of a T. When the pilot is ignited, the directionally T shaped hood forces gas in three directions; toward the thermocouple, the hot surface igniter, and out of the box over the port onto the burner. The hood protects the flame from the elements while efficiently directing the gas to be lit and produce HPC’s signature flame.
  • Pilot Base- The Pilot Base is the plate which all the components are attached to. It is made from commercial-grade Stainless Steele built to withstand elements.
  • Blow out box- The Blow Out Box is a perforated box that the pilot sits on. The box protects the pilot from the wind and other elements.

Push Button/Flame Sense Control FPPK Series:

HPC’s Push-Button Flame Sense Control is supported by a mechanical ignition. Each component works together to produce a safe, reliable, and brilliant flame. HPC utilizes commercial stainless steel to fabricate our components. The wire that is utilized is made from heat-safe materials. In particular, for the FPPK series, HPC intentionally chose a wire with a thicker protective jacket because there is a higher flow of voltage coursing through the wire.

  • Thermocouple- This component enables our flame sensing technology. When the Thermocouple is soaked or engulfed in the pilot heat, the heat creates a millivolt current that maintains the flame. In the event that the flame is blown out by elements, the current will be disrupted and will shut down the unit.
  • Pilot hood- The Pilot Hood is fabricated from commercial grade Steele and is formed in the shape of a T. When the pilot is ignited, the directionally T shaped hood forces gas in three directions; toward the thermocouple, the hot spark igniter, and out of the box over the port on the burner.
  • Spark Igniter- The FPPK utilizes a manual spark generator. With the press of the button it increases the volts and the spark igniter creates an arc of power between the igniter and the pilot hood. The spark that is created is approximately 8,000-10,000 volts and ignites the gas.
  • Blow out box- The Blow Out Box is a perforated box that the pilot sits on. The box as well as its lid protects the pilot from the wind and other elements.
