Currently, each piece tooled by HPC is not only tested internally, but is also tested by CSA to confirm its safety and functionality. Today’s Tech Talk will review HPC’s process to quote custom engineered designs to ensure an outstanding product every time, review the CSA standards for engineered designs and highlight some of HPC’s most popular customizations.

HPC’s local dealers can submit your design specs to begin the quoting process. Not linked with a dealer, consumers can visit HPCfire.com to get connected with the listed local dealers under HPC’s Shop drop down. The next step is to complete the contact and project information form. During this initial planning stage it is imperative to share all critical details of the project. Doing so will allow our HPC Team to guide you through the process while sharing their expertise to ensure the design and installation area is properly prepped to achieve optimal functioning.

Custom Round Fire Pit Burner

Once the project information form is completed it is sent to the attention of HPC’s Senior Lead Technician and Custom Specialist, Ben Wentzel. Depending on what is needed Ben will reach out to the customer or dealer to obtain market pricing and begin a drawing for the plan of the project. For a custom quote, the lead time is approximately 5-7 days as the HPC team reviews the project to obtain proper pricing as well as confirm the engineering of the designs. Once confirmed, Ben Wentzel will complete a CAD Drawing of the pan, burner, and the selected ignition system: electronic ignition system, match lit, FPPK. Once completed an electronic proposal combined with the drawing of the unit and the installation instructions are sent to the attention of the dealer and consumer. The plans will be reviewed and HPC will move forward with the build once the consumer signs off on the PO. HPC’s custom quotes are good for 30 days. Once the PO is received and the sale is complete HPC requires a 50% deposit before the build begins. Once payment is received there is a 4-6 week lead time. Proper customization takes time. What sets HPC apart is the engineering of each design. The unit is not pieced together with prefab parts. HPC pays special attention to the detail and the quality of how each appliance is crafted ensuring our units will stand the test of time.

CSA Certification On Engineered Designs:

HPC has worked tirelessly with CSA to set the standards regarding safety for engineered designs. Per the American National Standards Institute, all outdoor decorative fire appliances must be fully assembled and tested by the manufacturer.HPC’s Quality Control team, conducts the CSA required testing of outdoor decorative fire appliances based on ANSI Z21.97-2020 standards. In addition, HPC also follows internal processes to ensure each unit has been tooled as well as assembled properly allowing the design to function optimally. In terms of assembly, HPC and CSA developed an equation to determine proper placement of ports, as well as verify maximum BTU’s when using natural gas or propane gas on Match lit, Electronic ignition as well as FPPK Push button units.

For Engineered To Order designs to be CSA certified, they must not exceed a certain range of BTUs:

  • Match lit- 65,000 BTUs
  • EI-400,000 BTUs
  • FPPK -250,000 BTUs

Anything above 400,000 BTUs will not be CSA certified as it is considered to be a high pressure unit. HPC can still build these custom designs and will conduct internal testing to ensure the unit will be safe and reliable.
